The South Pole Submillimeter Telescope will be a user-facility instrument, open to all on a proposal basis.  Discussion of science goals and instrumental capabilities among the worldwide community of astronomers is critical.  An open Science Workshop was held for the South Pole Submillimeter Telescope.

The meeting was announced on the American Astronomical Society website, in the American Astronomical Society Bulletin, and on the internet.

Flyers were mailed to astronomical research institutions worldwide.

Here is the agenda.

There were ninety registered participants, filling a large lecture hall at the Harvard University Science Center.

The participants divided up into Science Working Groups, for discussion of SPST science goals.  Each working group issued a report:

Galactic Structure and Nearby Galaxies
Star Formation
Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation
Logistics requirements for SPST
