Partnerships in Astronomy & Astrophysics

Education & Research Between SAO & Southern University

This web site is designed to help our undergraduate student visitors who are involved in the SAO-Southern University Summer Intern Program.

This program is part of the "Partnerships in Astronomy and Astrophysics Education and Research at Southern University" program administered by Southern University and A & M College at Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The SAO portion of the program involves members of the SOHO Ultraviolet Corongraph Spectrometer (UVCS) group at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO). SAO and the Harvard College Observatory form the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA) which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Participating students will spend 8-10 weeks in Cambridge working with scientists who are involved in solar physics research programs. After their summer research, students will be mentored by UVCS scientists who will continue to interact with them during regular school year and assist them in their preparations for graduate school.

If you are not presently involved in the program and would like to participate, please contact Dr. J. Gregory Stacy at Southern University (gstacy@phys.subr.edu).
