We can trace the history of our universe back about
14 billion years, to a fiery period known as the Big Bang, when the
universe was extremely hot and dense, and the matter had not yet begun
to form the stars, galaxies, and planets that we know today. Einstein’s
theories led to the Big Bang model, but they cannot tell us what powered
the Big Bang, or what came before it.
