Reduced Light Curves from K2 Campaigns 0 through 19 on MAST

Our reduced light curves for Campaigns 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and the engineering test are now available on MAST. There is a search interface and a light curve plotting interface similar to that which exists for viewing original mission Kepler light curves. Also, we have released light curves for multiple different apertures for the same target, which gives users more freedom in choosing which pixels are used to create the light curves. This is particularly useful when trying to exclude background false positives, etc. We have also delivered all Guest Observer target files, including light curves that were missing in our previous data releases. After data from Campaign 1 of the K2 Mission was released in December 2014, we applied our technique from Vanderburg & Johnson (2014) to nearly 22000 targets and have released the data to the public. We made some slight modifications to the pipeline we used to process the Campaign 0 data, which we describe in our data release notes.

Our reduced light curves are available for download via a wget script at the following link:

The files linked in the download script include the raw light curves, corrected light curves, "arclength" positions along the direction of Kepler's pointing jitter, and a tag that indicates whether the thrusters are firing. This information is given for both the "best" photometric aperture that minimizes 6 hour photometric precision, and 19 other photometric apertures of different sizes and shapes.

Once again, like in the engineering test data, the correction can fail for stars with rapid or high amplitude astrophysical variability. In these cases, it could be better to use the raw data and the "arclength" positions in the diagnostics file to re-derive the SFF correction simultaneously with a model of the light curve.

After data from Campaign 0 of the K2 Mission was released in September 2014, we applied our technique from Vanderburg & Johnson (2014) to nearly 8000 targets and have released the data to the public. High quality Campaign 0 data spans 35 days, significantly longer than the duration of the engineering test, so we made some modifications to the technique of Vanderburg & Johnson, which we describe in our data release notes.

Reduced Light Curves from the K2 Engineering Test

In our paper A Technique for Extracting Highly Precise Photometry for the Two-Wheeled Kepler Mission , we described a technique to extract light curves from raw K2 pixel level data and correct for spacecraft pointing jitter, and applied it to the entire ensemble of stars observed during the K2 Engineering Test, from February 4 - 13, 2014. We reduced long cadence light curves for about 2000 stars and found that on the whole, the photometric precision of K2 data is within a factor of 2 of Kepler precision for stars with magnitudes 10<Kp<15, and within 35% for stars with magnitudes 12<Kp<13. In many cases, our correction significantly improves photometric precision over raw K2 data.

The first link includes only the corrected light curve - that is, there are two columns, one for time, and one for flux. All points when we detect that the thrusters are firing have been excluded. The second link includes the raw light curves, corrected light curves, image centroid positions, and a tag that indicates whether the thrusters are firing.

Note: Our correction technique is designed to correct the photometry for relatively quiet stars without fast astrophysical variations (less than about 1 day timescales). For this reason, for stars with rapid astrophysical variations like eclipsing binaries, Cepheid or RR Lyrae variable stars, and the like, it would probably be better to use the raw light curves instead of the corrected ones.
