Science Education Department (SED)

 The Annenberg Channel

From 1996 through 2008 the Science Education Department operated The Annenberg Channel, a free satellite/web service that broadcast 24 hours per day, 7 days a week to provide educational programming for schools, colleges, and communities with a special focus on teacher professional development and distance learning. More than 98,000 schools and 88,000,000 households had access to the Channel.

In addition to managing the Channel, the Science Education Department also produced interactive workshops for K–12 teachers and principals. These workshops responded to the needs of schools under scrutiny to turn out better educated students by helping teachers apply new learning strategies that work for a larger, more diverse student population. Although no longer broadcast, they are streamed online at www.learner.org.
