Mt. Hopkins was threatened by the Florida fire from July 7 to 19, 2005.

On June 22, 2007, there was a quick fire near the mouth of Madera Canyon. The fire started before noon and spread a little by 12:15 . A strong wind spread it quickly to the east by 12:40 and the order was given to evacuate Mt. Hopkins. By 13:30 when I left, the visible fire had died down some.

On June 2, 2007 there was a lightning sparked fire south of FLWO. It started shortly before 6pm. There were some impressive cumulus clouds. I caught two lightning strikes about one minute apart. Spotter planes were on site within a half hour. The fire was still going around 7pm and 9pm.

On 07/07/07 at about 1pm a fire started south of Kitt Peak. It was called the Alambre fire and was at 6000 acres four days later

The Horseshoe 2 fire started on May 8, 2011 in the Chiricahua Mountains. It burned 348 square miles over the next 6 weeks. It could be seen from space.

Three weeks after this fire started, a series of fires combined into the Murphy Complex fire which burned 100 square miles abou 4 miles west of Tubac.

In late June of 2013 the Yarnell Hill fire, 200 miles NW of Mt. Hopkins, burned 8,400 acres and resulted in the death of 19 firefighters.

On July 24, 2014 lightning started the Deer Head Fire in Saguaro National Park near Mica Mountain. It was allowed to burn 1000+ acres over the next month.
