The 4 AIA Telescopes Mounted on SDO Spacecraft

AIA is one of 3 instruments that will be launched on the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) .

SAO's Central Engineering, working under a contract from Lockheed Martin's Solar and Astrophysics Laboratory  , designed, fabricated and assembled the 4 telescopes that make up SDO's AIA instrument. 

SAO was responsible for the following elements of the instrument:

• Telescope structural system
• Optical design and fabrication
• Front door mechanism
• Front aperture filters
• Telescope Alignment
