Mr. Griswold's career in film and television spans several decades. Trained as a documentary film and television producer, his independent work received national awards and has been shown widely in festivals and on television. His film, "La Fiebre de Irse (The Fever to Go)," a documentary in Spanish about the two-way migration of an extended Puerto Rican family, was distributed internationally on PBS, HITN, and Latin American networks.
In 1987, Mr. Griswold began his association with the Center for Astrophysics in the production of "A Private Universe", an 18-minute documentary that depicts Harvard graduates grappling with misconceptions about the seasons and the phases of the Moon. In 1991, he joined the staff of the CfA's Science Education Department (SED) as Producer, participating in the creation of major educational video programming, including the public television series, "Minds of Our Own." In 2003, he became Executive Producer for the SED's video-based professional development courses and programs, remaining in that role until 2014, when he was appointed Smithsonian Research Associate (2014-2024). Productions he supervised included: "Science in Focus: Energy," "Essential Science for Teachers," "Expanding the Universe in the Classroom," "The Habitable Planet: A Systems Approach to Environmental Science," "Physics for the 21st Century," "Neuroscience in the Classroom," and "Chemistry: Challenges and Solutions." Many of these programs are available free at Annenberg Learner.org.
