Wishes for 1999
Twas the last night of Chanukah, and all through the house, seveal creatures were stirring, including our mouse. The mouse it did fly, o'er the pad on the desk. "Write our holiday letter, or I'll give you no rest!" I knew by the voice the ultimatum was true, so I offer you all our year in review.
Last December while many celebrated Christmases merry, we celebrated the arrival of Abigail Peri. She was born on the ninth at six pounds and ten. We knew life would never be dull again. A bit of the collick - Is she crying again? Trying the patience of Molly and Sebastian.
A few weeks later - she's still just a tot - begins a year in which we all travel a lot! A party in New York - lots of family to meet, then to DC for Alyssa's Pierce Prize receipt. Come March, it's a junket to much warmer climes, as we visit Grandma Edith (and Grandpa John) for happenin' times. Abby thinks Sarasota's totally cool, 'cause she can bask in the sun and swim in the pool. After completing our grandparent biz, it was off to Gainesville to see Chuchie Liz!
In April, Meryl and Jonathan came to play with Ab-by while
her daddy was far away. Later in the month, Maddy and Evan come to town;
but the skies open up before we can get in a round. In May it's Berkeley
and the Claremont hotel, where Grandpa Warren and Grandma Debbie made it
even more swell. We went out to Pleasanton to visit the Stanford-True bunch,
where Clara and Abby sprung for the Mothers Day brunch! We also saw the
Kimmels before they moved to L.A., and then we jumped in our sleigh and
went on our way! No really, it was American airlines we flew, as Abby's
frequent flyer miles really began to accrue.
In June, we got a visit from Lisa, Lance and their boys, who showed Abby how to use some of her toys. Then it's July, so off to Santa Barbara Abby, with an added bonus of Grammy and Grandpa Lee! They babysit while Mommy is at PP-four, and Daddy is trying to keep down his score. In between fighting the sand traps, greens, and rough, Dad joins in at the zoo and lots of other fun stuff! Abby loves animals, birds and fish, too. She knows that the cat says "Meow," and the cow says "Moo!."
In
early August, we went "down the cape," where Abby stared at the
seals all agape. She loved swimming in a small pond, with Mommy, Daddy,
and Warren looking on. September brought another banner day with the arrival
of Abby's cousin, Miss Hannah Faye. It was back to New York for the Bar
Mitzvah of Seth, where we saw Grandma Else and all the rest.
In October we went to Boulder to play in the snow (Not really, but don't ask; you don't want to know). While there we got to see the Hannon homestead, which was great 'til Dad bonked Abby with a ball in the head. No worse for wear, we got back on the plane and went almost a month before embarking again! Credit card offers keep arriving for Abby; she flies quite a lot and her credit ain't too shabby.
The final big sojourn of Abby's busy first year was to Tucson, Arizona with all of her gear. The weather was great, even warm in the shade, and we all got to find out how telescope mirrors are made. We all enjoyed the Sonoma Desert Museum, when the prairie dogs popped up long enough for Abby to see 'em.
Over Thanksgiving, we hosted Grammy, Lee, Debbie, and War,
and had a pre-birthday bash for our rising star. We completed the year with
a big birthday fete, with more presents than we thought one girl could get (Thank you everyone!) Grandma
Edith and Grandpa John came for the official to-do, along with Meryl, Jonathan,
and all Abby's friends, too. We have some real doozies with all the pictures
we take, but the one of her head first in the frosting really takes the
cake!
It has been quite a year, full of laughter and mirth, changing thousands of diapers since Abby's birth. We've suffered sleep deprivation, ear infections and croup, but with the help of our families, we always seemed to regroup. So, we are filled with much joy at this Holiday season. Our friends and family provide the obvious reason.
