UVCS Instrument Technical Status

General health of UVCS Instrument is very good. Instrument successfully completed recommissioning on 14 October 1998. No instrument problems have been attributed to the Mission Interruption.

 

All instrument electronics were thoroughly exercised during recent recommissioning with no indications of degradation in function.

 

Instrument Flight Software currently executing using original side-A software. No software patches have been implemented or are anticipated. All software checksum evaluations were successful upon recommissioning.

 

Instrument Mechanisms remain fully functional. LYA Grating Drive must be operated through a commanded series of short motions to avoid sensor saturation. Cursory review of internal low-voltage bus characteristics indicate no impending mechanism operational problems.

 

Instrument external and internal temperature distributions are nominal and comfortably within their allowable operating temperature ranges. All active thermal control devices remain fully operational.
