May 8, 2008 UT, FLWO 1.5m spectrum shows this type-IIn supernova, compared with a spectrum of 1999Z taken on UT 1999 Feb. 9. Filippenko et al. (CBET 1420) report that 2008cg could be the result of a type-Ia supernova exploding within a dense circumstellar envelope, such as 2002ic and 2005gj.
