1) Questions and Answers on SMA data reduction in Miriad
Q: Path to CASA?
A: The path from SMA Miriad has been adapted by CASA users for
SMA data reduction in two ways:
1) using SMALOD to convert SMA archival data to Miriad;
using SMAFIX to correct system temperature in Miriad;
using FITS to make multi-source UVFITS output;
then calibrating and imaging in CASA.
2) using SMALOD to convert SMA archival data to Miriad;
following the calibration procedure for SMA data in Miriad;
using FITS to make calibrated single-source UVFITS output;
then imaging in CASA.
2) Issues on IDL-Miriad path
SMA staff had two meetings regarding the IDL-Miriad support. Further input from IDL users is needed.
Alice A.: reported IDL/CASA users' complaints to the path of IDL-Miriad to CASA.
The path that users tried was through calibration in IDL,
making single-source outputs in "Miriad format", and then in Miriad
making UVFITS output with FITS.
The reported problems appeared to be related to those problems
identified in the conversion from IDL to Miriad, which were
discussed in the IDL programmers' meetings.
JHZ: suggested to try the path of IDL to UVFITS (calibrated single-source data), which
were debugged in the past for the AIPS path. CASA should correctly
interpret AIPS UVFITS. SMA online system uses the same system as
NRAO in coordinates and frequency-velocity.
KY & EK: discussed the visibility weighting method in IDL developed by Mark G.,
more specifically for how to separate the two sideband weightings.
....
The problems in the path of IDL-Miriad to CASA were discussed.
IDL programmers/developers will be directed to fix these problems.
Miriad developers will provide help.
Please note that the meeting time has been changed to 4-5pm EDT.
