Skymapper: What's Up Down Under
Dr. Brian Schmidt, Australia National University

Skymapper is a 1.35 meter wide-field imager being built at Siding Spring by the ANU (using insurance money from the destruction of telescopes in the disastrous bush fires at Mount Stromlo in 2003). This robotic telescope will create the first comprehensive digital survey of the southern sky. Because each field will be imaged 36 times, Skymapper will provide both a deep southern sky survey and the opportunity to detect transients and moving objects. This talk will bring you up to date on the technical status and scientific program of Skymapper.
