The Missing Intracluster Medium in Globular Clusters
Dr. Pauline Barmby (Univ. W. Ontario)

Mass loss is one of the most important and poorly-known parameters in stellar evolution theory. Stars in globular clusters are known to lose mass, but previous attempts to detect the lost mass as an intracluster medium have been largely unsuccessful. We observed eight massive Galactic globulars with Spitzer/MIPS and found no evidence for thermal emission from interstellar dust similar results were recently obtained using data from Akari. The implications of this missing intracluster medium will be explored.
