Far-Infrared Radio Correlation in Ultra-Luminous IR Galaxies,
and the Role of Secondary Cosmic Ray Electrons

Dr. Thinniyan N. Rengarajan (Tata Institute, Mumbai, India)

It is a mystery that the FIR-radio correlation holds good in Ultra- Luminous Infrared Galaxies and Starburst galaxies. Plausible solutions have been proposed, but not without problems. I will discuss some of these and propose that the so called 'secondary cosmic ray electrons' may have a role to play. Further, the problem will be more tractable if we can separate the thermal and non thermal radio emissions in these galaxies.
