Ultra-deep Infrared Surveys:
Stepping Stones from the 48-inch to SIRTF
Dr. Eric Tollestrup, CfA
Abstract
A wealth of information exists well past the limit set by source
confusion from faint, unresolved galaxies. With the launch of SIRTF in
2001, we will be able to ultra-deep surveys from 3.5 to 8.0 microns
that should set limits on the total amount of light seen from all
galaxies at these wavelength and also extend the source galaxy counts
down to nJy levels. I will discuss our efforts to set the ground work
for the SIRTF surveys with ongoing ground-based surveys currently under
way on the the 48-inch telescope.
