Director's Office: Who Does What

Charles Alcock (617-495-7100) is Director of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, Director of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, Director of the Harvard College Observatory, and Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University. Dr. Alcock is also the principal investigator for the Taiwan-America Occultation Survey.

Roger Brissenden (617-495-7387) is Deputy Director for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Dr. Brissenden is also the Manager of the Chandra X-ray Center and Associate Director for NASA's High Energy Astrophysics Science Archive Research Center.

Nancy Brickhouse (617-495-7438) is Senior Science Advisor for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Dr. Brickhouse advises the Director on major organizational issues and scientific research policy, and manages strategic planning.

Andrea-Marie Moore (617-495-2907) is the Executive Director of the Harvard College Observatory with responsibility for the HCO budget, HCO contract and grant administration, and general day-to-day operations of the Observatory. In addition to being the Chief Financial and Personnel Officer, Andrea is Lab Director and chief liaison for the HCO with the other departments and divisions of the Center for Astrophysics and with Harvard's FAS.

Sharon Allen (617-495-7410) is the CFRE, Chief Advancement & External Affairs Officer. Sharon directs a multifaceted program of CfA philanthropic gift and grant activities, as well as fundraising, press and public relations, special events and public programs.

Nadia Whitehead (617-721-7371) serves as the Public Affairs Officer for the CfA. Nadia oversees media relatiions and external communication, working closely with researchers and the media to highlight the center's research, activities, programs and events.

Sarah Hogan (617-495-1490) is the Donor Relations and Events Manager on the Advancement and External Affairs team. Sarah is responsible for stewarding donor relations, coordinating advancement events and gift accounting.

Tyler Jump (617-495-7462) is the Marketing Manager in the Advancement & External Affairs Office. He is responsible for developing and implementing CfA's marketing, brand and digital communication strategy. He also oversees the publication and design of traditional and online marketing materials and assists in the development of fundraising campaigns for prospective donors.

Katherine Copeland (617-496-7581) is the Advancement & External Affairs Associate. She assists with coordinating advancement and external affairs events. She will also aid in fundraising and gift processing. Lastly, Katherine is responsible for administrative tasks for the office such as purchasing requests, scheduling travel arrangements, planning calendar requests, and time keeping.

Mariclaire O'Neill (617-495-7272) is an Advancement and External Affairs Associate. She assists with coordinating advancement events, fundraising, and gift processing. She is also responsible for administrative duties for the office such as purchasing requests, scheduling travel arrangements, planning calendar requests and time keeping.

Margaret Carroll (617-495-7099) is the Administrative Specialist in the Director's Office of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. She serves as liaison for the Director regarding issues impacting SAO/HCO relations, and manages special projects. She is the office space coordinator for the CfA, negotiating space allocations for divisions and departments with Associate Directors, Department Managers, and Building Managers, and oversees renovations and relocations.

Joyce Silberman (617-496-7703) is the Staff Assistant to the Director's Office. Joyce's responsibilities include travel arrangements, requisitions/receiving, coordination of the Colloquium Guest Speaker Series and Fellowship events, time keeping, in addition to special events within the Director's Office.

Christine Crowley (617-495-7103) is SAO's Fellowship Program Coordinator. She manages all administrative actions and details associated with fellowship awards at CfA. She also works closely with members of the CfA Postdoctoral Fellowship Selection Committee, the SAO Predoctoral Research Oversight Committee, and the Smithsonian Office of Research Training and Services. Susan Hessenthaler (617-495-7102) is the Assistant to the Director. She handles the Director's calendar, correspondence, travel arrangements, and manages the routine operations of the Director's Office.

Howard Smith (617-496-2198, Room M-219 at 160 Concord Street) is a Senior Astrophysicist and a special assistant to the Director, assisting in communications with Washington on scientific matters.
