BICEP1 is the first microwave polarimeter designed specifically to target the B-mode signature of inflation in the Cosmic Microwave Background polarization. It consists of 49 orthogonal pairs of polarization-sensitive bolometers observing at two frequencies (100 GHz and 150 GHz). A small aperture refracting telescope provides angular resolution of 0.93° and 0.60° at 100 and 150 GHz, respectively.

BICEP1 operated from the Dark Sector Lab at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station from January 2006 through December 2008.

News from the Pole

BICEP1 results from three years of observing have been published in Barkats et al. (2014).

BICEP1 results from two years of observing have been published in Chiang et al. (2010).
